The Greek gods of Olympus are alive and still meddling with humans in the 21st century in this funny, fast-paced series for kids age 10 and up.
Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he has always had trouble at school. He’s flunked or been kicked out of every one he’s attended. When his math teacher unexpectedly turns into a leather-winged hag and attacks him – Percy thinks this year won’t end any differently.
But it does! Well, he still gets kicked out of school… but after some close-call danger on his way home, Percy learns he’s a half-blood, the son of a god and a mortal woman. He has to race to Half-Blood Hill, a camp/training ground in New York for all the demigods, before the underworld monsters find him. Camp Half-Blood is the only safe place for the sons and daughters of gods to hone their skills and train to be heroes.
But Percy isn’t safe for long. Someone has stolen Zeus’ master bolt and the new half-blood seems the most likely suspect, especially since it turns out he’s the son of Poseidon, Zeus’ brother and sometime enemy.
It’s one exciting adventure after another as Percy goes on a quest to retrieve the master bolt with his companions Annabeth, daughter of Athena, and Grover, a satyr. You’ll get a kick out of the updated mix of mythology and contemporary life — and root for Percy all the way to the end.
The Lightning Thief launches the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and did a great job hooking me and my son into the story. We’re anxiously awaiting the next installment.

My son loved this series – devoured the first three books in about 5 days. He’s eagerly anticipating Battle of the Labyrinth and was delighted to hear that Rick Riordan may be appearing in Richmond in May. (That’s the only detail I have so far.)

Just a few more days until book 4 is out! If you get stuck in a long list for the title — check out Michael Scott’s The Alchemyst to help you get through the wait. His characters are a bit older than the folks at Camp Half-Blood — but it’s got the same mix of myth and contemporary life.
I love the whole series. i`ve already read the forth book and i know that there’s a fifth book, and if there isn’t then write one – please – I’m desperate. You could just dedicate it to Ethan Smith – if you want to.

Yes, Susan, there is going to be a fifth book — but I didn’t see anything about when it’s coming out. (Wasn’t it about a year between Curse of the Titans and Battle of the Labyrinth?) I loved the book too! I also thought the book was truly amazing. Sometimes, the words in the book really get to you and you just can’t stop reading. I’m sure everyone gets that feeling once in a while. I belong to this book club and we’ve been discussing this book since February. I hope you understand the book and that you keep reading it so you’ll get to know the book better.

I think that this book is the best !!! I was on his website [www.rickriordan.com] and he said that there will be more Camp Half Blood books with different people, but only 5 with Percy. I am SAD about that because I think we have really gotten attached to all the characters [esp, Percy], but I am also happy because aleast he will be making more Camp Half Blood books
