Did I mention my crush on Jackson Brodie? I did, didn't I. Also there's my crush on Kate Atkison, who, I have just discovered, ALSO WRITES SCIENCE FICTION. Apparently there is time traveling in her novel Human Croquet. I will confirm this as soon as I get a chance to read it. (I have it checked out, but first I have to finish two other books that are coming due soon.)

Not to put too fine a point on it, but basically I need to call in sick for about two weeks to catch up on some pleasure reading. I think this is a very reasonable approach and I'm sure the rest of you won't mind covering my slack. (For the record, I don't want Christmas break to count as one of those sick weeks.)

I seem to have wandered far from the topic of Kate Atkinson's books. Oops. I'll be interested in hearing how you like the third Jackson Brodie, when you get around to it. (And what about Louise? What do you think of Louise?)

I haven't read this in a while, but I do remember enjoying it immensely. I've read a few other Marlowe books, but my favorite is "The Long Goodbye," hands down.

Mandy,

Have you seen Immortal Beloved, the Beethoven film starring Gary Oldman? It is another wonderfully realized period piece exploring the possible identity of the woman Beethoven addressed a series of letters to. It also explores the inspiration for and creation of the Ninth Symphony, with a visually astounding dramatic climax.

here is the summary but not giving the end....I get a 100 in it

This book is a about a boy name Dave Packer who studies in The Laketon Elementary School. One day Dave was doing his homework about India’s Independence, he had researched about Gandhi, one of the most interesting people in the story of India’s Independence. He had found that Gandhi believed that not talking brought order to his mind. Dave decided to give it a try and not speak until lunch the next day at school, but he didn’t think about a project he had the next day. The next day when it was his turn of presenting with Lynsey (a girl he didn’t like) he didn’t talk and for an excuse he started coughing. At lunch he started speaking and he heard Lynsey gossiping and Dave was tired of hearing her shrilly voice. So Dave started discussing with her about how much girls talk, but Lynsey didn’t stay quiet and she started insulting boys, so Dave offered to make her a deal of who didn’t talk less, boys or girls for the next two days until lunch. Lynsey was not sure of what she was doing but she accepted. Who is going to stay silent the longest?
